Colon cancer also referred to as colorectal cancer or large bowel cancer is when one get cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Colon cancer is said to be the fourth most common form of cancer in the United States and the third leading cause of cancer related death in the western world. Colon cancer starts from mushroom shaped growth called adenomatous polyps which form in the colon. These growths are usually benign, but some can develop into cancer over time.
